Cloudy weather before and after, but on Festival day the skies opened up with sunshine and cool breezes.

Many visitors drive up from Los Angeles for the event.

Many also take advantage of group purchase offers, such as the Red Hat Ladies (from Chatsworth, at right), the Corvette Club, the Santa Barbara Meetup and groups of co-workers who share rides.

Although the Festival no longer provides a supervised play area for kids, there is playground equipment on the site, thanks to Lake Casitas.

Many parents bring their kids, and supervise them through a fun afternoon.

The Staff

Most of the work comes from members of the Rotary Club of Ojai-West, but the job would be impossible without help from other Rotary Clubs, members' spouses, relatives, and volunteers who donate their labor.

Over the past two decades, the event has grown in size and complexity.  It is a major challenge for the club and our supporters.  Advance preparation has become almost a year-round project.  We can always use more volunteers.

All profits from the Festival go to local and international charities,  particularly the global effort to wipe out polio.

Leading the effort this year was our first full-time Executive Director Angela May, at left, and her husband David, seen at right.  Despite the tough economy, proceeds in 2009 exceeded all other years.

Mike Caldwell is the Chairman of the Wine Festival.  His fundraising and organizational leadership were essential.

Despite his other charity work on behalf of the local schools, he found time to help make order from chaos and assist all the other committee members.

John Kenyon was our 2008-09  Ojai-West President.

The success of the Festival will leave a lasting legacy of his tenure.

Les Gardner describes himself as the "grandfather" of the Wine Festival.  He was there at the first one, and remains a major force to this day.

Les owns the Attitude Adjustment Shoppe in Ojai, where tickets are sold over the counter.

Dr. Jim Halverson, at right,  is the club's chief fundraiser.  He used his persuasive talents to round up donors and sponsors for the event.

All of the folks you see pictured here put in time on event day, most on setup day, and some on takedown day.

Unfortunately, our photographers were unable to capture images of all those who propelled the Wine Festival to success.

Some were in remote locations.  The cameramen were busy with other duties, and many who worked throughout the year were unable to attend the actual festival due to other commitments, or illness.

We've tried to add their names below.  If you can help to complete the list, please email us.

Left:  After putting up tents and banners, and staking down tables, a crew stayed behind to stuff 3,200 wine glasses with tickets and ID bracelets.

This speeds up the ticket distribution on Festival day.

In addition to those mentioned above, the Festival could not go on without particular skill sets.  The Rotorboat is piloted by Captains Ed Cutchna and Jim Chase.  Paramedics from Lifeline Medical Transport were standing by to aid anyone with a medical emergency.  Underage workers can't work inside the Festival, but students from Nordhoff High School were invaluable in parking cars.  Victor Garza has been the sound man for many popular bands, and we were lucky to have his services. Our thanks to guest Steve Adams, who graciously consented to our use of his fine photographs.

Our guests like to dance so much that we had two bands for them.
